This unflattering picture of me is what really got me thinking about losing weight for real. Yes, it took me 3 months after the picture was taken to finally take the plunge, but it still counts in my book.

This is me at or close to my heaviest weight.

Weekends are hard…

I’m having a hard time staying OP on the weekends. A friend and I went to the movies to see 17 Again (not very good) and for a slice of pizza beforehand. I did really well, planned enough points for the pizza and the box of Milk Duds I ate at the movies. Had I stopped there, I would have done fine. But DH had another pizza here which I ended up eating a piece of after midnight. I counted the points – but I wonder, should I have counted it toward last night’s points or today’s??

Anyway, this seems to be my weekend pattern and I need to cut it out. Just took the dog for a walk, so I can at least add a few activity points for the day.

Almost three weeks on WW

I’m almost three weeks in to my WW journey and so far, so good. I’ve lost 5.4 lbs. (as of my official weigh-ins). I made it through Passover and the weekend that preceded it – Stacey’s delicious chicken enchiladas and homemade guacamole, trivia and fried food at Fin Daddy’s and my own spectacular Passover dinner with matzo ball soup, chopped liver and matzo toffee. That’s all in the same weekend, folks!

I always have a hard time with exercise, well, because I’m lazy. I have all these great ideas – workout DVDs, bike, walking, etc. In addition, work’s been hectic and I’m closing in on finals for school. These are really NOT good enough excuses, but I’m using them anyway.

I’m off to a good start today, though. Just returned from a 30 minute walk with Ruby. She’s definitely more exhausted than I am! Today is a gorgeous day and since I’m rarely off during the week like this, I thought I should take advantage of the low humidity and cool breeze. Today would be a beautiful day to be at Disney!

I’ve decided to set a goal for myself in terms of exercise that comes with a good reward. I’m going to “train” to walk a 5K at Disney in January. I know I can walk 3.1 miles, but it must be done in 45 minutes, which is a brisk pace. That’s the part I need to work toward. Richie is going to walk it with me, as are Denise and Jon.

I’m thinking if my weight loss goals are rewarded with something Disney related, maybe I can make it work this time! After the 5K, my next Disney-related goal will be to get down to the appropriate weight for a Segway tour.

Weight loss journey

So I haven’t even logged into this blog in over a year. I only used it for the purposes of uploading pictures from WDW to the Passporter boards.

Now I’m on a journey to lose weight. I have been heavy my whole life and have been on just about every diet out there – Weight Watchers, Slender Life, South Beach, Atkins, Cabbage Soup, etc. All of them have worked in one way or another but the weight has not stayed off because I’ve always gone back to my old habits of overeating and eating the wrong foods.

Now that I’m nearing 40 I am really starting to realize that I’ve got to get real. My family history is bad – diabetes 1 and 2, heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol – you name it and I’m probably predisposed to it! Losing weight can help to reduce my chances of these things affecting me in my lifetime. Not to mention that I have two bad knees that will require surgery at some point.

Last week, I re-joined WW for about the 10th time. Hopefully, it will be the last time. A friend is doing it with me and I have the support of other friends and colleagues to keep me accountable. My husband is coming around…he has a hard time not bringing home the foods that tempt me. I know if he sees that I’m really serious this time that he’ll get with the program – and he may lose a few pounds in the process.

I will be adding some photos soon – if only to help me stick to the plan. I’m hoping if I see the difference in my body, it will keep me from quitting again.
